Pixel LED headlights
Our signature Thor’s Hammer headlights automatically adapt the light pattern to optimise your vision without dazzling other drivers. Using responsive pixel light technology controlled by a front-mounted camera, each headlight unit’s 84-pixel LEDs can shade out up to five vehicles simultaneously – whether they’re coming toward you or in front of you. The headlights also turn with you when you steer through a curve, illuminating the road ahead.
Spacious boot
The boot of your XC40 can hold up to 569 litres. Fold down the rear seat backrests to bump that up to 1432 litres, including a 77-litre compartment under the boot floor. The inner wheel arches are pushed out of the way to widen the boot and create a flat floor. Open and close the power-operated tailgate hands-free with a kick under the bumper. You can also use buttons on the tailgate and centre display.
Roof spoiler and diffuser
A roof spoiler dials up the car’s athletic presence. It also boosts aerodynamic efficiency and hides a brake light and rear wiper washer nozzle. The integrated rear diffuser further improves handling by increasing downforce and minimising drag.
8 wheel designs
The XC40 offers a range of wheel options, ranging up to 21-inch in size. Choose between a glossy silver finish, a glossy black finish or a diamond-cut style that combines polished aluminium with sleek black accents. The diamond-cut styles feature sharp angles to create an illusion of larger wheels with extended spokes, while glossy black inserts provide a striking contrast against the aluminium surfaces.
Practical 5-seater
The XC40 packs comfortable seating for up to five people and a spacious boot into a lean package. And while it retains the ride height and ground clearance SUV drivers love, its compact size makes it practical, especially in urban areas.

Keyless entry with hands-free power tailgate
Keyless entry gives you full access to your Volvo as long as you bring the remote key with you. The doors and tailgate unlock automatically as you pull the door handle. And to lock the doors, just press a button in any of the car's door handles as you leave the car. This feature also includes hands-free opening and closing of the power-operated tailgate. Simply move your foot under the rear bumper, and the tailgate opens or closes – very convenient when your hands are full.
