Welcome
to the blog of Finlay
Volvo, your trusted local Volvo Authorized Dealership in Naas, serving the
Kildare area. Today, we are thrilled to introduce the all-new Volvo EX30, a
revolutionary small SUV that sets a new benchmark for sustainability in the
automotive industry. Designed with the environment in mind, this fully electric
vehicle boasts the lowest carbon footprint of any Volvo car to date. Join
us as we explore the remarkable features and eco-friendly initiatives behind
the Volvo EX30. **Reducing Carbon Footprint, Mile by Mile:**
At
Volvo, we are committed to combating emissions throughout the entire lifespan
of our vehicles. With the Volvo EX30, we have successfully reduced its total
carbon footprint to below 30 tonnes* over a distance of 200,000 kilometres.
This achievement marks a 25 percent decrease compared to our previous fully
electric models, the C40 and XC40. Our goal is to reduce overall CO2 emissions
per car by 40 percent between 2018 and 2025.
**Zero Tailpipe Emissions for Cleaner Air:**
One
of the most significant advantages of the Volvo EX30 is its zero tailpipe
emissions. By operating solely on electricity, this SUV not only reduces its
carbon footprint but also has a positive impact on air quality. Recent research
conducted by the University of Southern California* confirms that an increase
in electric cars within a region leads to a decrease in asthma-related
emergency room visits.
**Beyond Electrification: A Holistic Approach to Sustainability: **
While
electrification is a crucial step toward reducing carbon emissions, we
recognize that a car's environmental impact extends beyond its drivetrain. The
Volvo EX30 embodies our holistic approach to sustainability, considering
factors such as design, development, manufacturing, and transportation.
**Recycled Materials: Making Every Component Count: **
By
designing a smaller car, we minimize the amount of material needed for
production. This strategy significantly reduces CO2 emissions resulting from aluminium
and steel, two major contributors to the manufacturing process. Additionally,
approximately 25 percent of the aluminium and 17 percent of the steel used in
the Volvo EX30 are recycled, further lowering its environmental footprint.
**Optimization for Functionality and Efficiency: **
Inside
the Volvo EX30, we prioritize sustainability by incorporating optimization as a
key design principle. Our engineers have skilfully integrated multiple
functions within single components, reducing the number of parts required
without compromising functionality. This streamlined approach not only enhances
efficiency but also aligns with our commitment to sustainable design.
**Innovative Materials for a Greener Future: **
The
choice of materials for the Volvo EX30 reflects our dedication to a more
sustainable future. Up to 17 percent of the plastics used in the car, including
interior components and exterior bumpers, are derived from recycled sources,
making it the highest percentage of recycled plastic in any Volvo car to date.
**A Climate-Neutral Manufacturing Process:**
Manufacturing
and the supply chain play pivotal roles in reducing emissions. The Volvo EX30
is produced in a factory powered by high levels of climate-neutral energy,
including 100 percent climate-neutral electricity. We have collaborated with
our Tier 1 suppliers, with 95 percent of them committed to achieving 100
percent renewable energy in their production by 2025.
**Traceability and Accountability with Blockchain:**
To
ensure responsible sourcing and production of battery packs, we employ
blockchain technology to trace critical raw materials like lithium, manganese,
cobalt, graphite, and nickel. By prioritizing material traceability, we
contribute to a more sustainable and accountable supply chain.
**A Thoughtful Interior:**
Inside
the Volvo EX30, we embrace a wide range of recycled and renewable materials for
seats, dashboard, and doors. Innovative choices such as denim, flax, and a
wool-blend containing around 70 percent recycled polyester enhance both
sustainability and style. The denim interior deco, for instance, utilizes fibres
that would otherwise be wasted during the denim recycling process.
**Downsizing without Compromise:**
The
Volvo EX30 allows you, as a customer, to downsize your carbon footprint without
compromising safety, driving comfort, or convenience. With an estimated
cradle-to-gate CO2 impact of 18 tonnes, encompassing the extraction of raw
materials to the arrival of the finished car at the dealer, this small SUV
showcases our commitment to sustainability.
The
Volvo EX30 represents a monumental leap forward in our sustainability journey.
