Oct
19, 2023
Volvo Cars is all about
pushing boundaries and embracing the future. That's why we're thrilled to
introduce our latest gem - the state-of-the-art Software Testing Centre in
Gothenburg, Sweden. It's a testament to our commitment to shaping the future of
electric vehicles and software-driven cars.
Volvo's Innovation Hub
What's Brewing at Volvo:
We're in the midst of a
fascinating shift in the automotive industry. We're introducing a new
generation of fully electric Volvo cars, including the impressive EX90 SUV and
the compact yet powerful EX30 SUV. These cars are not just hardware marvels;
they're designed to get better over time thanks to regular, over-the-air
software updates.
Investing in Innovation:
To fuel our ambitions of
becoming an industry leader in new technology and achieving our goal of
becoming a fully electric car company by 2030, we keep investing in our
in-house software development and testing capabilities. Our spanking-new
software testing centre is a significant leap in this journey.
A Peek Inside Our
Software Wonderland:
- Size and Splendour:
Covering a vast 22,000 square meters and with an initial investment of
around SEK 300 million, this facility is the crown jewel in our global
engineering network.
- Unmatched Capacity:
It's set to house approximately 500 testing rigs and digital test
environments, making it a global hub for software testing and validation
activities.
- Global Harmony:
Developers from all our engineering sites and Tech Hubs worldwide can
remotely run software tests here 24/7, 365 days a year. It's a true global
collaboration.
Welcome to the Future:
We're on the cusp of a
remarkable transformation in the automotive world. Our vision encompasses fully
electric vehicles, online sales, advanced in-house software, and regular
over-the-air updates. And it's this in-house software development and testing that
will make it all happen.
Striving for Excellence:
Anders Bell, our Global
Head of R&D, is excited: "This is a state-of-the-art facility that
will be the hub for our global software testing and validation activities. With
this new testing centre, we've set a new benchmark for the automotive
industry."
Join Our Journey:
Initially, the software
testing facility will employ around 100 people, with plans to expand to 300
when operating at full tilt. Eventually, it will house approximately 500
testing rigs and digital test environments, up from almost 200 today.
Global Connections:
Our Gothenburg site will
work closely with our other engineering centres worldwide. We've recently set
up a new Tech Hub in Singapore, and there are plans for another software-focused
Tech Hub in Krakow, Poland. Our global software engineers are working on
exciting challenges, from core safety technology to software for future
autonomous driving.
Be Part of Our
Innovation:
We're on the lookout for
software engineers worldwide. If you're up for a thrilling challenge, check out
our Careers page for the latest job openings.
Join the Volvo
Revolution:
Besides Gothenburg, we
operate Tech Hubs in Stockholm and Lund in Sweden, as well as in Bangalore,
India. Each location has its own area of focus, creating a dynamic network of
innovation centres worldwide.
